2. Fiction—a prose account that is made up rather than true—not true
3. Non fiction—prose writing that deals with real people, events, and places without changing any facts----true
4. Drama—a story written to be acted in front of an audience--play
5. Plot—the series of related events that make up a story
6. Character—a person or animal that takes part in the action of a story, play or other literary work
7. Setting—the time and place in which the events of a work of literature take place
8. Theme—the idea about life revealed in a work of literature
9. Climax—( look under plot)—the most emotional or suspenseful moment of the story, when the outcome is decided one way or another
10. Resolution—(look under plot)—when the characters’ problems are solved and the story ends
11. Fable—a brief story in prose or verse that teaches a moral or gives a practical lesson about how to get along in life—ex. The Boy Who Cried Wolf
12. Conflict—a struggle or clash between opposing characters or opposing forces
13. External Conflict—( look under conflict)—a character struggles against an outside force
14. Internal Conflict—(look under conflict)—a struggle that takes place in a character’s mind. A struggle between opposing needs, desires, or emotions—Char. Vs. Self
15. Flashback—an interruption in the action of a plot to tell what happened at an earlier time
16. Novel—a fictional story that is usually between 100-500 book pages long---a novel title is underlined------The Outsiders
17. Motivation—( look under character)—any force that drives or moves the character to behave in a particular way
